Many guests don’t realize that for all homes on beautiful St. John and the USVI, our only resource of water is rainfall which is caught via the roof and stored in cisterns beneath the house. There is no central plumbing or water company that distributes water to each home. The south side of St. John, where WindSong Villa is located, is generally much drier than other parts of St. John. Can you see the cactus all around? We do check our cisterns before guests arrive to ensure you’ll have enough water for your stay, but if it runs out, we then will have to have water trucked to the villa in a tanker rig. Because everything is on “island time” arranging delivery to fill your cistern may take several hours or even a day or two.

Conservation Efforts

Showers and Faucets

Please help us conserve water by not allowing the water to run while washing up or brushing teeth, flush only when necessary, and do your best to take short showers. If you have children, please keep this in mind and explain to them that they are literally washing with rain, and that’s why it’s so important to conserve our most precious resource. Please report any running toilets or dripping faucets to the villa manager immediately. We appreciate your help.

Toilets and Plumbing

We have an eco-friendly, self-contained septic system. To conserve water, we installed water-saving toilets. For this reason, the septic system is sensitive and too delicate to handle anything out of the ordinary. Please do not flush any foreign objects or personal hygiene products down the toilets, as these items will clog the system and interrupt your stay. You will also be billed for any clogs and/or damage to the system caused by flushing anything other than toilet paper.

Laundry and Dishwasher

WindSong Villa has a washer, dryer and dishwasher for your use. When doing laundry or using the dishwasher, please conserve water by only running a complete load at a time.

Electricity

The cost of electricity in the US Virgin Islands is roughly 400% to 600% more, than the cost on the mainland. Please conserve electricity by making sure all windows and doors are shut while running the air-conditioner. In addition, while you are away from the villa during the day or in the evening, please shut off the air-conditioner or raise the temperature. Again, please remind children of the importance of this. Abuse or excessive use will be deducted from the security deposit.
